Man netted over alleged graft-facilitated card fraud faces ICAC charges

An unemployed man, arrested by the ICAC last Sunday (July 15) during an ambush operation in relation to credit card fraud suspected to be facilitated by corruption, was charged today (Tuesday).
Wong Tin-yuen, 25, faces four offences, including the possession of false credit cards and equipment for manufacturing false cards. He will be brought before Eastern Court at 9:30 am tomorrow (Wednesday) .
The charges alleged Wong of possessing two false credit cards in the name of others; 450 plastic cards, each with a magnetic tape; three plastic cards, each with a magnetic tape and printed characters; a skimmer; two encoders and six Hong Kong Identity Ca rds relating to other persons.
The ICAC commenced investigation after receiving information alleging that a criminal syndicate was engaged in manufacturing and uttering counterfeit credit cards, with the corrupt assistance from some staff members of beauty centres in Tsim Sha Tsui.
During Sunday’s operation, the above items, suspected to be used for manufacturing counterfeit credit cards, were seized.
Wong is being detained by the ICAC, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the ICAC’s investigation into the corruption allegation is continuing.
