Mortgage fraud suspect penalised for resisting ICAC arrest

2001-7-27

A woman, who earlier resisted arrest during an ICAC operation in relation to an alleged mortgage scam, was today (Friday) sentenced at Tuen Mun Court.

Ng Yuet-wah, 45, today pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mr David Thomas to one count of resisting ICAC officers in the execution of their duties, contrary to Section 13A of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Ordinance. She was fined $2,000.

The court heard that on February 1 this year, an ICAC senior investigator and an assistant investigator were deployed to arrest Ng for her alleged involvement in a mortgage loan fraud, and to search her residence in Yuen Long.

At about 9:50 am on that day, the two ICAC officers met Ng in the vicinity of her residence. They identified themselves by showing Ng their warrant cards.

The senior officer explained to Ng that they were empowered by a court warrant to search her residence.

After the three arrived at Ng's residence, the senior officer arrested Ng and cautioned her.

Ng suddenly attempted to leave the house.

During the ensuing struggle, Ng attacked the senior investigator twice.

The two officers eventually subdued Ng and called for police assistance.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Andy Yu.
