Former bank staff accused of accepting cash and Rolex watches to grant credit

A former manager and an ex-account officer of Dao Heng Bank Limited (DHB) appeared at Eastern Court today (Wednesday) for allegedly accepting cash and Rolex watches to help a company chairman secure credit facilities from the bank.

The two defendants were Kwok Wai-lit, 37 and Liu Sin-yi, 31, respectively former Acting Manager of the Corporate Banking Division and former Account Officer of DHB.

Kwok was charged with two counts of accepting a Rolex watch and $30,000 cash from Ho Chi-chun of Au Kiang International Company (Au Kiang) to assist Au Kiang in obtaining credit facilities from DHB.

Liu faced one count of accepting a ladies' Rolex watch from Ho for the same reason.

The alleged offences took place between January 10 and May 2, 1994.

No pleas were taken today. Magistrate Mr Robert McNair adjourned the case to October 17, pending transfer to the District Court. The defendants were each granted bail of $30,000 in cash.

ICAC officer Chu Mei-po today represented the prosecution.
