Accounting staff caught red handed and charged for allegedly collecting bribes

An employee of an accounting firm, caught red handed at the New Trend Plaza in North Point last (Thursday) night for accepting bribes from tenants of a shopping mall, has been charged by the ICAC this (Friday) evening.

The case came to light after a corruption complaint was made to the ICAC on Wednesday (October 3).

An ambush operation was mounted yesterday, where the defendant was arrested immediately after collecting bribes totalling $3,600 from two of the tenants.

Sak Ka-ming, David, 43, of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, currently in ICAC custody, will be brought to Eastern Court at 9:30 am tomorrow (Saturday) for plea .

The defendant faces five charges under Section 9 of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

Three of the charges alleged Sak of soliciting $5,900 in total from Yip Ching, Cheung Yuk-wah and Tsang Wai-ying as rewards for him to arrange the renewal of leases at New Trend Plaza, North Point, on October 3, 2001.

Two other charges alleged Sak of accepting $3,600 in total from Yip and Tsang on October 4, 2001.
