High-Level ICAC Delegation to Prague Conference

A high-level delegation, led by the ICAC Commissioner Mr Alan Lai Nin, departs for Prague of the Czech Republic today (Saturday) to attend the 10th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) to be held between October 7-11.

In addition to Mr Lai, other ICAC delegates include the Director of Investigation, Mr Daniel Li Ming-chak; Director of Corruption Prevention, Mr Thomas Chan Chi-sun; Director of Community Relations, Mrs Susan Mak Lok Suet-ling and Assistant Director of Op erations, Mr Ryan Wong Sai-chiu.

The ICAC is one of the founding members of the IACC, which has become a principal global forum for anti-corruption specialists to exchange information and ideas about developments and strategies in the worldwide battle against the insidious crime. The IAC C held its first meeting in 1983 and biennially since.

“The biennial meeting has proved to be a valuable global platform to exchange views on graft-fighting strategies. This gathering of anti-corruption specialists certainly will enhance international co-operation and liaison, which is vital in tackling the in creasingly sophisticated crime of corruption,” Mr Lai said of the IACC conference.

Apart from plenary sessions and meetings, 72 workshops will be held during the conference the main theme of which is “Together Against Corruption: Designing Strategy, Assessing Impact, Reforming Corrupt Institutions”.

The ICAC Commissioner will chair a workshop on the importance of an honest police force, with panel members drawn from law enforcement agencies from various jurisdictions.

The conference will be attended by senior members of law enforcement agencies, politicians, national and local government officials, members of the judiciary, representatives of different trades and professions, non-governmental organisations and academic s from all over the world.
