OI chairman and company owner face court for allegedly soliciting $160,000 in bribes

A chairman of an owners' incorporation (OI) and a company owner were charged by the ICAC for allegedly soliciting about $160,000 in bribes from a decoration contractor for awarding a renovation contract of a residential building in Mongkok.
No pleas were taken from Lee Kar-yin, 65, OI chairman of Wingco Mansion, and Chu Yin-tak, 48, proprietor of Gold Ocean Engineering Company when they appeared at the Kowloon City Court today (Friday).
Magistrate Mr Ernest Lin adjourned the case to December 28, 2001, pending transfer to the District Court.
The charges alleged the defendants of conspiring to solicit an advantage from Lee Chau-mou and Fan Chun-man, respectively proprietor and manager of Chau Mou Engineering & Company (Chau Mou) in September 2000, for showing favour to Chau Mou in awarding a r enovation contract of Wingco Mansion.
The advantage was said to be calculated at 8% of the contract worth $1,974,100.
The defendants were each granted bail of $5,000 in cash and were ordered not to leave Hong Kong and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Herbert Lee.
