Three police officers and four others arrested for alleged bribe-for- protection probe

The ICAC has arrested seven persons, including three police officers, for alerting operators of entertainment establishments of impending police raids and failing to take enforcement actions against suspected illegal activities at these establishments in return for monetary advantages.
In an operation coded named " Penguin" commenced yesterday (Friday) night, two Detective Sergeants and a Detective Senior Inspector were arrested.
Four others, including a managing director, a manageress and two assistants of a group of entertainment establishments, were also arrested in the operation.
Another Senior Inspector, two Sergeants and a Police Constable, as well as 14 civilians, including operators and staff of various entertainment establishments, were interviewed in relation to the investigation.
ICAC investigations also revealed that the managing director had allegedly arranged his employees to surrender themselves as "scapegoats" for arrest by the raiding police officers in some occasions.
The Police rendered full assistance to the ICAC during the investigation.
The arrestees, aged between 31 and 57, will be released on ICAC bail later tonight. Inquiries are continuing.
