2002-6-17
A Police Constable and an artiste, charged by the ICAC with alleged conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice in relation to a traffic accident, today (Monday) pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Mr Tong Man at Western Magistracy.
Lau Chi-wai, 28, Police Constable, and Nicholas Tse, 21, artiste of Emperor Entertainment Group Limited, had their case adjourned until September 19, 2002 for trial.
The duo were alleged to have conspired together and with Shing Kwok-ting and Chow Chu-fai to pervert the course of public justice between March 23 and April 12, 2002 by allowing Shing to falsely present himself, in substitution for Tse, as the driver of a private car in the police investigation of a traffic accident.
The traffic accident involving the said private car took place at Cotton Tree Drive, Central, on March 23, 2002.
Lau and Tse had their respective cash bail of $10,000 and $50,000 extended. Tse was also ordered not to discuss the case with prosecution witnesses.
Shing had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice relating to the same matter. He was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment.
The prosecution was today represented by Government Counsel Gary Lam, assisted by ICAC officer Simon Chow.
