Principal Fireman charged for allegedly accepting advantage and aiding subordinate to submit false sick leave

A Principal Fireman of the Fire Services Department (FSD) was today (Thursday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly soliciting and accepting advantages without permission, and aiding and abetting a subordinate to use a false sick leave certificate.
Li Chi, 50, Principal Fireman, will appear in Shatin Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on three counts of alleged offences.
One of the charges alleges that Li had solicited a $6,000 loan from his subordinate on May 3, 2001, without the general or special permission of the Chief Executive.
Li further faces one count of accepting a gift consisting of a two-tael gold bracelet from his subordinates on November 6, 2001, without the general or special permission of the Chief Executive.
The remaining charge alleges Li of aiding, abetting, counselling and procuring a Fireman to use a false sick leave certificate on November 6, 2001, with intent to deceive the Hong Kong Government.
Li was arrested in an ICAC operation in January this year.
Two other FSD officers arrested in the same operation were also charged by the ICAC today.
Jonathan Lai Chi-ho, 30, Station Officer, and Chan Wing-hong, 42, Fireman, will appear in North Kowloon Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) .
Lai and Chan each faces one count of engaging in bookmaking between September 2001 and January this year.
The three defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances tomorrow.
