Main contractor's surveyor charged for alleged bribery over Po Lam Station contracts

A Senior Quantity Surveyor of the main contractor for the Po Lam Station of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) was yesterday (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly soliciting and accepting advantages for assisting in awarding contracts and showing favour to a subcontractor.
Ho Kwok-hung, 40, Senior Quantity Surveyor of Maeda Corporation (Maeda), will appear in Kwun Tong Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on one count of soliciting an advantage and three of accepting an advantage.
One of the charges alleges that Ho had solicited sums of money from a proprietor of Choi Kee Engineering (HK) Limited (Choi Kee) as rewards for Ho to assist Choi Kee in obtaining contracts from Maeda in relation to MTRC Contract 615 Po Lam MTRC Station.
The contracts concerned the installation of architectural metal works at the Po Lam Station.
Three other charges allege Ho of accepting money and gifts totalling $80,000 from the proprietor of Choi Kee as rewards for Ho to show favour to the proprietor in relation to the business between Maeda and Choi Kee.
The alleged offences took place between January and July 2000.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
