2002-11-21
A goods vehicle driver has been charged by the ICAC for allegedly offering $500 to a police officer in return for not taking enforcement action against him in relation to a traffic offence.
Wang Peng-fe, 38, will appear at Tuen Mun Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on one count of offering an advantage to a public servant, contrary to Section 4(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
The charge alleges that Wang had offered $500 to a Senior Police Constable (SPC) on August 19, 2002.
The bribe was said to be a reward for the SPC to abstain from issuing a fixed penalty ticket against Wang for his failure to comply with road traffic signals.
The SPC refused the bribe on the spot, and arrested Wang for the alleged corruption offence. The case was subsequently referred to the ICAC.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
