Mainland's top procuratorate official visits ICAC to foster ties

2002-11-28

ICAC Commissioner, Mr Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong, had met with Mr Qiu Xueqiang, Deputy Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) during his visit to Hong Kong.

Mr Lee said the visit had further strengthened liaison and cooperation between the two organisations.

He said SPP had, since March 2000, been directly involved in the Mutual Case Assistance Scheme, providing assistance to the ICAC in interviewing voluntary witnesses outside the Guangdong Province in relation to corruption investigations.

During his first visit to the ICAC, Mr Qiu had met the chiefs of ICAC's three departments and toured the facilities of the Operations Department.

Mr Qiu said the visit allowed him to learn first hand the latest development of ICAC's work, which would strengthen future communication and cooperation in combating corruption.

In addition to the ICAC, Mr Qiu also visited other policy bureaux and government departments during his four-day visit to Hong Kong, which ended today (Thursday).
