Court orders forfeiture of $300,000 surety from company executive wanted by ICAC

The Eastern Magistracy has ordered to estreat $300,000 cash surety from a senior company executive, who is wanted by the ICAC to face trial for an alleged $148 million Letters of Credit fraud.
Leung Siu-sing, 63, assistant general manager of Hong Kong Chung Min Co. Ltd., was due to appear in Eastern Magistracy on December 5 last year for committal proceedings for the Court of First Instance. Leung failed to turn up and a court warrant was subs equently issued for his arrest.
The Department of Justice earlier filed applications for the forfeiture of $300,000 cash surety and $300,000 cash bail money paid by Leung.
On Wednesday (January 15, 2003), the court ordered to forfeit $300,000 surety from Leung, while the $300,000 cash bail was to be kept by the court until his arrest.
In September last year, Leung, together with two other persons, were charged by the ICAC with conspiracy to defraud three banks in obtaining credit facilities totalling $148 million.
