Response Statement
2003-5-27
In response to press enquiries, an ICAC spokesman confirmed that a reporter of a magazine and a former guard of a security firm have been arrested for alleged bribery in relation to unauthorized access to a location-shooting scene of a film company.
The ICAC investigation arose from a corruption complaint. The duo was arrested in an operation, which commenced last week.
The security firm was contracted by the film company to provide security service at a location-shooting scene, where admission was restricted to relevant artistes and crew members.
The arrested reporter was alleged to have offered bribes to the night-shift guard for allowing him to enter the premises and take photographs of the location-shooting scene.
The ICAC executed four warrants at the premises of the media organisation publishing the magazine last (Monday) night and two at the reporter's residence this (Tuesday) afternoon.
Such warrants were issued by the Court of First Instance under Section 85 of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance and Section 17 of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance for the purpose of searching for and seizing journalistic and relevant mate rial.
The former security guard has been released on ICAC bail, while the reporter is being detained. Inquiries are continuing.
