2016-11-29

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (November 29) embarked on a visit to Sanya, Hainan Province where he would attend two international conferences and share Hong Kong’s latest anti-corruption strategy and initiatives.

Mr Peh will attend the 14th Prosecutors General Conference of the Member States of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the 2016 Meeting of the Heads of Prosecution Service of the BRICS States (the BRICS States Meeting) which are held back-to-back in Sanya from November 30 till December 1.

The Commissioner will address at a plenary session of the BRICS States Meeting on Thursday (December 1) themed “Fighting Corruption to Safeguard the Sustainable Development of Economy and Society”, sharing Hong Kong’s multi-sector and multi-layer approach in combatting corruption.

During his stay in Sanya, the Commissioner will meet Professor Cao Jianming, Procurator General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SSP), to exchange views on the latest development in anti-corruption initiatives of both places. Mr Peh will also meet other officials of the Hainan Provincial People’s Procuratorate during his visit.

The BRICS States Meeting was an initiative jointly launched by the SPP and the Office of Prosecutor General of Russia in 2015. At a meeting of BRICS prosecutor-general held last year in Sochi, Russia, the five member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa pledged their support to strengthening international judicial cooperation in the fight against organised crimes, particularly on corruption, money laundering, terrorism and its financing.

The Commissioner will return to Hong Kong later this week. Accompanying Mr Peh on his visit is Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Acting Principal Liaison Officer of the Community Relations Department.
