ICAC and Mainland procuratorates to bolster co-operation in graft fight

The ICAC and Mainland procuratorates would step up co-operation on various fronts, including mutual case assistance, intelligence exchange, staff training and preventive education, said ICAC Commissioner Raymond Wong Hung-chiu today (Saturday), as he conc luded an official visit to authorities in Bejing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
"With the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, both sides have agreed to strengthen measures to combat cross-boundary corruption, building on the existing solid foundation for co-operation," Mr Wong said.
Accompanied by senior ICAC officials, Mr Wong had visited Shanghai, where the delegation met with Mr Zheng Luning, Deputy Chief Procurator of the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate, and senior officials of the city's Supervisory Committee and Publi c Security Bureau.
In Guangzhou, the delegation met with Mr Zhang Xuejun, Chief Procurator of the Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate, as well as officials of the Guangdong Supervision Bureau and the Guangdong Public Security Bureau.
During their stay in Beijing, the delegation met with Mr Jia Chunwang and Mr Qiu Xueqiang, respectively Procurator-General and Deputy Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, to exchange experience in anti-corruption work and explore oppo rtunities for strengthening co-operation on various fronts.
Other authorities visited included the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Supervision, and the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing.
The delegation also visited the National Development and Reform Commission, and the State Bureau for Letters and Calls for the first time upon invitation.
Accompanying Mr Wong on the Mainland visit were Mrs Susan Mak Lok Suet-ling, Director of Community Relations; Mr Ryan Wong Sai-chiu, Assistant Director of Operations; and Mrs Jean Au Yeung Lui Miu-kwan, Assistant Director of Corruption Prevention.
