ICAC launches parenting programme to promote positive values among youth

A series of radio programmes jointly launched by the ICAC, the Committee on Promotion of Civic Education, the Commission on Youth and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will be broadcast from this Sunday (October 5) to promote positive values among youth t hrough parenting activities.

The five-episode series will be broadcast from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon on Sundays as a special segment on RTHK Radio 1’s parenting programme until November 2, 2003.

Celebrities from various professions will be invited to share their views and experiences with programme host Ms Blanche Tang on topics such as honesty, fairness, righteousness and attitudes towards money. Audience are welcome to call up and chat with th e celebrities.

They include: Ms Scarlett Pong, an investment consultant; Ms Shirley Loo, a parenting expert; Dr Sylvia Chen, a psychiatrist; and Mrs Maria Lam, a primary school headmistress.

“It is one of our major initiatives to press home anti-corruption messages and to promote positive values such as discipline and honesty among young people through parenting,” ICAC’s Acting Programme Co-ordinator Miss Monica Yu said.

The ICAC had in recent years joined hands with other organisations in launching various programmes and activities to assist parents in instilling positive values in their children, she added.

In addition to the radio series, a “ Parenting Fun Day ” featuring parenting activities and family games will be held for about 600 parents and their children on October 26, at Music Farm, Kam Tin, Yuen Long.

Application forms for free admission tickets to the Fun Day are available for downloading from the ICAC website ( www.icac.org.hk ). The deadline for application is October 7, 2003.

If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, the tickets will be distributed by drawing lots. For enquiries, please call 2920 3503.

Highlights of the fun day will be recorded and broadcast on RTHK’s parenting programme on November 2 as the finale of the radio series.
