2003-10-26
Over 650 parents and their children today (Sunday) joined a special day camp designed by the ICAC and other organisations to promote positive values such as honesty, sense of responsibility and fairness amongst youth.
The parenting day camp was organised by the ICAC in conjunction with the Committee on Promotion of Civic Education, the Commission on Youth and the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) at the Kam Tin Music Farm.
Messages about the importance of positive values were brought out through parenting activities, part of which were led by social workers.
ICAC's Director of Community Relations, Mrs Susan Mak; Chairman of the Committee on Promotion of Civic Education, Mr Daniel Heung Cheuk-kei, and Member of the Commission on Youth, Mr Kennedy Wong Ying-ho, called on parents to provide support to their chil dren to lead a healthy and positive life.
Mrs Mak noted: "It is important to instil in our younger generation positive values during their formative years so they will become law-abiding citizens and more able to resist temptations of corruption."
"In recent years, the ICAC has organised various parenting activities to foster a partnership with parents to achieve this goal, reaching a total of one million people."
"The ICAC will continue to disseminate anti-corruption messages amongst young people through various channels, including school talks, interactive drama, and the youth website Teensland , which registers 52 million hits since its launch in April 2000," Mrs Mak added.
At today’s day camp, guest speakers including investment consultant, Ms Scarlett Pong; primary school headmistress, Mrs Maria Lam, and a few artistes also spoke on positive values and their experiences in putting parenting skills into practice.
It was followed by a music show by pop singers Edwin Shiu, Bobo Chan and the E-kids.
As part of the parenting programme, a series of radio programme featuring a number of professionals sharing their insights on various themes such as honesty, fairness, righteousness and attitudes towards money were broadcast in the past four Sundays on RT HK Radio 1.
Highlights of today's parenting day camp will be aired on the RTHK parenting programme from 11.30 to 12.00 am next Sunday (November 2) as the finale of the radio series.
