An unemployed man, charged by the ICAC for his alleged involvement in a plot to murder an ICAC witness in relation to the trial of a $8 billion cigarette smuggling case allegedly facilitated by corruption, was today (Wednesday) laid with an additional cha rge.

Cheng Wui-yiu, 41, was jointly charged with another unemployed man, Chung Ping-shing, 43, with one count of conspiracy to deal with proceeds of an indictable offence, contrary to Section 25 of the Organized and Serious Crimes Ordinance (OSCO).

The alleged conspiracy to commit the OSCO offence took place between March 1 and April 30, 1995.

Cheng was earlier charged by the ICAC with one count of conspiracy to murder, and one of conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice.
