Trio charged for allegedly deceiving $9.6m commissions and transportation charges

Three persons, including two former employees of Mitsubishi Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited (Mitsubishi-HK), were today (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent plot to deceive commissions and transportation charges to talling about $9.6 million from Mitsubishi-HK.
The defendants are Harry Cheung Kuen, 40, and Choi Pui-chung, 43, both former deputy general managers of Mitsubishi-HK; and Dennis Cheung Hang, 39, merchant.
They will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) on a total of three alleged offences –'96 two counts of conspiracy to defraud, and one of conspiracy for an agent to use documents with intent to deceive his principal.
The defendants were arrested by the ICAC during a corruption inquiry in July last year.
One of the charges alleges that Cheung Kuen and Cheung Hang had conspired together and with other persons to defraud Mitsubishi-HK by dishonestly causing Mitsubishi-HK to pay a total of $5,960,907.22 pursuant to commission agreements allegedly made based on false representations.
Cheung Kuen and Cheung Hang further face one count of conspiring together and with other persons for Cheung Kuen to, with intent to deceive Mitsubishi-HK, use the alleged false commission agreements.
Cheung Kuen, Cheung Hang and Choi face a joint charge of conspiring together and with other persons to defraud Mitsubishi-HK by dishonestly causing Mitsubishi-HK to pay inflated transportation charges totalling $3,679,807.95.
The alleged offences took place between January 1997 and July 2003.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances tomorrow.
