CSD officer arrested for allegedly bringing drugs into prison for bribes

The ICAC has arrested an Assistant Officer II of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) for allegedly bringing about 1,000 tablets of soft drugs into Stanley Prison for bribes.
The case arose from a corruption complaint referred by CSD. ICAC inquiries revealed that the arrested CSD officer had allegedly accepted a total of over $10,000 from a prisoner as reward.
Also arrested in an operation mounted last Wednesday (January 21) was a woman, who had allegedly assisted in transferring bribe payments to a bank account said to be in control of the CSD officer.
Upon his arrest by ICAC officers, the CSD officer was found in possession of about 1,000 tablets of suspected Midazolam, as well as a newspaper containing soccer betting tips and some food items allegedly intended for the prisoner concerned.
CSD has offered full assistance and cooperation to the ICAC during its investigation.
The arrestees have been released on ICAC bail. Inquiries are continuing.
