Korea anti-graft agency learns ICAC's work first hand

A four-member delegation from the Korea anti-corruption agency today (Thursday) visited the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to learn the Commission’s anti-graft strategies first hand.

Greeting the visitors, ICAC Commissioner, Mr Raymond Wong Hung-chiu, said the ICAC placed great emphasis on the co-operation with international counterparts in fighting corruption, which had become increasingly transnational and complex.

He also shared with the Korea Independent Commission Against Corruption (KICAC) delegation Hong Kong’s experience in rooting out rampant corruption through a integrated approach whilst the Head of Operations, Daniel Li Ming-chak, gave an overall view of the current corruption situation in Hong Kong.

The delegation, led by KICAC's Secretary General Mr Kim Sung-ho, also met Operations Department’s Director of Investigation (Government Sector) Mr Gilbert Chan Tak-shing and Director of Investigation (Private Sector) Mr Francis Lee Chun-sang.

After the meeting, the visitors toured various facilities of the Operations Department, including the Exhibition Hall, 24-hour Report Centre, Video Interview Room, Detention Centre and the Identification Parade Room.

Also joining Mr Kim during the visit were Mr Kwon Kun-sang, Director of Institution and Practices Improvement Office; Mr Jeung Gi-young, Deputy Director, Inspection Planning Division; and Ms Choi Kyoung-mi, Editor of the International and NGOs Co-operatio n Division. The delegation was accompanied by Consul Ohm Ki-sung of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong.

Members of Korea's anti-graft bodies and government officials were among some 300 visitors the ICAC received each year as part of the on-going international exchange activities.
