In response to press enquiries, an ICAC spokesman today (Saturday) confirmed that six persons had been arrested for alleged offences, including conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice, perjury and violating the Witness Protection Ordinance.
The arrests arose from matters referred by the Secretary for Justice to the ICAC for investigation in connection with an ongoing ICAC corruption case involving a listed company.
The persons arrested include a barrister, a solicitor, the chairman of a public listed company, a solicitor’s clerk, and two civilians.
The ICAC made the arrests under the provisions of Section 10(2) of the ICAC Ordinance.
During the operation, representatives from several media organisations were invited to assist in the inquiry.
Warrants of search issued by the Court of First Instance under Section 85 of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance and by a magistrate under Section 10B of the ICAC Ordinance in relation to searching for and seizing journalistic and other relev ant material have been executed in the operation.
