Man charged for allegedly making false graft report against police officers

2004-7-27

A man was charged by the ICAC for allegedly fabricating a graft report, accusing the police officers who were investigating a case whereby he was the alleged victim of assault and theft, had accepted bribes for not taking enforcement action.

Chan Ho-ming, 18, will appear at Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Wednesday) on one count of making a false report to ICAC officers, contrary to Section 13B(a) of the Independent Commission Against Corruption Ordinance.

The charge alleges that on February 25, 2004, Chan had knowingly made a false report to an ICAC officer, claiming that Hui Ho-tak had assaulted him and stolen from him $10,000 on December 18, 2003.

Chan is further alleged to have claimed in his report to the ICAC that the investigating police officers had accepted an advantage from Hui for not arresting the latter for the suspected assault and theft offences.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
