Shatin District Councillor arrested for alleged bribery over shuttle bus service

A member of the Shatin District Council was yesterday (Thursday) arrested by the ICAC for accepting an alleged bribe from an operator of a transportation company in relation to shuttle bus service at a residential estate in Ma On Shan.
The ICAC investigation arose from information alleging that the District Councillor had solicited advantages in relation to the shuttle bus service at the residential estate.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the District Councillor, who was also the chairman of the owners' incorporation (OI) of the residential estate in Ma On Shan, had allegedly solicited a bribe from the operator providing shuttle bus service at the estate.
In return, the District Councillor was alleged to have abused his position as the OI chairman and a District Councillor respectively in recommending the operator in the renewal of licence certificates for the shuttle bus service, and helping him extend th e route to other estates in the neighbourhood.
During the course of the ICAC investigation, it was also revealed that a director of a motor bus company had allegedly offered bribes to the District Councillor for assisting the former in bidding for the shuttle bus service.
ICAC enquiries also revealed that the District Councillor, his wife and a travel agency's proprietress had allegedly conspired to deceive allowances from the Shatin District Council in relation to coach rental for a sightseeing tour organised for resident s of the estate.
The councillor's wife, the director of the motor bus company and the proprietress of the travel agency concerned were also arrested in relation to the ICAC investigation.
Enquiries are continuing.
