Shatin District Councillor charged for alleged coach service bribery

The chairman of an owners' incorporation, who is also a member of the Shatin District Council, was charged by the ICAC for allegedly accepting a $30,000 bribe in relation to the renewal of coach service at a residential estate in Ma On Shan.
Wong Kwok-hung, 46, faced a holding charge of accepting an advantage as an agent, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, when appearing at Shatin Magistracy this (Saturday) morning.
Wong, the chairman of the Incorporated Owners of Kam Ying Court Phase II, Ma On Shan, was alleged to have accepted $30,000 from a director of Nam Hoi Bus Services Company Limited (Nam Hoi) on September 23, 2004, for assisting Nam Hoi in the renewal of the passenger service licence certificates in respect of a residents' coach service route.
No plea was taken. Magistrate Mr Michael Jenkins adjourned the case until November 25, 2004 for mention.
The defendant was granted bail of $30,000 in cash and $100,000 in surety. He was also ordered not to leave Hong Kong, and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Ricky Hui Kar-man.
