Solicitor charged for allegedly frustrating SFC investigation over Shanghai Land

A solicitor has been charged by the ICAC for his alleged role in frustrating an investigation by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in relation to suspected share price rigging of publicly listed Shanghai Land Holdings Limited (Shanghai Land).
Wong Pui-fai, 43, will appear at Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) on two counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice.
The case arose from an on-going corruption inquiry in relation to the listed company.
The charges allege Wong of conspiring with Mo Yuk-ping, Chung Sau-ling, Sammy Lam Kai-sing, Cheung Pak-yau and Joanne Lui Ching-yee to pervert the course of public justice by falsely representing to SFC that the trades in Shanghai Land shares in the perio d from August 30, 2002 to January 17, 2003 respectively in the name of Lam Kai-sing and Cheung Pak-yau were effected by the two persons.
The alleged offences took place between April 14 and May 31, 2003.
Wong has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
