Ex-bus cleaning inspector and subcontractor face court for alleged $220,000 bribery

A former cleaning inspector of Citybus Limited (Citybus), charged by the ICAC for allegedly accepting over $220,000 in bribes in relation to cleaning work performed by subcontractors, appeared in Eastern Magistracy today (Friday).
Wong Chi-kwong, 46, and co-defendant Lok How-chuen, 47, a former cleaning subcontractor of Citybus, faced a joint charge of conspiracy for public servant to accept advantages, contrary to Section 4(2) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. Wong further faced another similar alleged offence.
No pleas were taken. Magistrate Mr Ian Candy adjourned the case until April 1, 2005 for plea at District Court.
One of the charges alleged that between October 2001 and December 2003, Wong and Lok had conspired together for Wong to accept an aggregate sum of $188,805 for Wong to assist Lok in carrying out his duties as a subcontractor for cleaning buses belonging t o Citybus.
Wong was also alleged to have conspired with another cleaning subcontractor between January and August last year for Wong to accept $35,000 for the same reason.
The defendants were each granted cash bail of $5,000. They were ordered to reside at the reported addresses, and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses. Wong was also ordered not to leave Hong Kong, while Lok was allowed to travel between now and M arch 25, 2005.
The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Lawrence Hong.
