2005-3-23
The ICAC has arrested 12 persons, including a Detective Senior Inspector of Police (DSIP) and a Detective Police Constable (DPC), for alleged corruption and conspiracy to pervert the course of public justice by frustrating police investigations.
Also arrested in an operation codenamed " Flint ", which commenced yesterday, were six suspected triad members and four staff members of a cruise liner.
The investigation arose from allegations that some police officers might have accepted advantages to frustrate police investigations.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the arrested DSIP and DPC had allegedly accepted advantages from the suspected triad members.
In return, the arrested police officers had allegedly provided assistance and attempted to frustrate a number of police cases against them or their associates.
Enquiries also revealed that one of the suspected triad members, who was wanted by the Police for his alleged involvement in a case of assault and criminal damage, had been hiding on the cruise liner to avoid apprehension.
The arrested staff members of the cruise liner were alleged to have assisted in harbouring the wanted man.
The cruise liner was searched by ICAC officers during the operation with the assistance of the Immigration Department and the Police.
The Police has also rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
Enquiries are continuing.
