ICAC booklet on clean CE Election for EC members
2005-5-18
The ICAC has produced an information booklet as a handy and useful reference for all Election Committee (EC) members to better understand the electoral law in regard to the upcoming Chief Executive (CE) Election.
The booklet highlights major provisions of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) relating to various aspects of an election, including nomination of candidates, electioneering, voting, the administration of election expenses and election donations.
It also contains a Questions and Answers section featuring various scenarios such as election advertisements in newspapers and internet, organising social functions with the attendance of candidates, and the hosting of dinners to celebrate successful election of candidates.
"The booklet will help EC members avoid breaching the electoral law inadvertently when participating in election activities," ICAC's Programme Co-ordinator (Elections), Miss Rosaline Cheung Oi-lung said.
The booklet, which is being mailed to all EC members, will also be posted on the ICAC's Chief Executive Election webpage at http://www.icac.org.hk for public access.
As part of the education and publicity efforts to promote a clean and fair CE Election, the ICAC will also arrange briefings to further explain the electoral law for EC members upon request.
The ICAC has also set up a 24-hour election enquiry hotline 2920 6530 to answer queries concerning the ECICO and related issues during the election period. Meanwhile, any complaints can be made to ICAC's Report Hotline at 2526 6366, or any ICAC regional offices.
