2005-8-4
The ICAC has charged three Artisans of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) for alleged bribery in relation to cremation services at Fu Shan Crematorium.
Liu Weng-kee, 56, Tang Wan-hing, 51, and Leung Ying-ming, 52, will appear in Shatin Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on a total of three charges of conspiracy for public servants to accept advantages, contrary to Section 4(2) of the Prevention of B ribery Ordinance.
The case arose from a complaint referred by FEHD. At the time of the alleged bribery offences, the defendants were attached to Fu Shan Crematorium.
Two of the charges allege Liu, Tang and Leung of having conspired together to accept bribe payments from two funeral parlour agents for facilitating and expediting cremation of corpses in coffins submitted by the two agents.
Liu and Leung further face a similar charge of conspiring with another person to accept bribe payments from another funeral parlour agent for the same reason.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the bribe payments allegedly accepted by the defendants ranged from $80 to $100 on each occasion.
The alleged bribery offences took place between July 1997 and March last year.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances tomorrow.
