Estate manager in court over $270,000 year-end bonuses fraud

2017-2-10

An estate manager of a property management company appeared in the Shatin Magistracy today (February 10) after being charged by the ICAC with defrauding the company of year-end bonuses totalling over $270,000 by falsifying his attendance records.

Danny Yung Man-kwong, 52, estate manager of Chevalier Property Management Limited (CPML), who was charged on Wednesday (February 8), faced five counts of fraud, contrary to Section 16A of the Theft Ordinance.

No plea was taken today. Acting Principal Magistrate Mr Joseph To Ho-shing adjourned the case to March 24 this year for mention.

The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the above alleged offences.

Since 2005, the defendant had been employed as deputy estate manager of CPML, which was the property management company of Saddle Ridge Garden, a Home Ownership Scheme estate in Ma On Shan. He was promoted to estate manager in April 2010.

The charges alleged that between February 1, 2010 and January 7, 2015, the defendant falsely represented to CPML that he attended work in accordance with the attendance records shown on his attendance cards submitted to CPML.

It was alleged that with intent to defraud, the defendant induced CPML to pay year-end bonuses in a total sum of over $270,000 to him, which resulted in benefit to him or prejudice to CPML.

The defendant was granted cash bail of $15,000. He was also ordered to surrender travel documents, not to leave Hong Kong, and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

CPML had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Swing Chan.
