The ICAC has launched a territory-wide project to foster positive values amongst young people through a web-based reading project and the publication of articles by over 100 accomplished writers and celebrities.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the “Integrity Enhancement” Publication and E-Reading Students Participation Programme today (Saturday), ICAC’s Director of Community Relations, Mrs Erika Hui Lam Yin-ming, stressed the importance of promoting a culture of probity alongside stringent law enforcement and preventive education in maintaining a fair and clean society.
Mrs Hui said: “To sustain a culture of probity, we must garner the support from the community to foster positive values, such as honesty, integrity and a sense of responsibility, among young people at an early stage.”
Apart from reaching out to youngsters through school talks, interactive drama and classroom activities, the Commission has in recent years widely exploited the Internet, such as the introduction of a youth website Teensland , to spread anti-corruption messages.
Mrs Hui said under the E-Reading project launched for the first time today, articles on positive values will be uploaded daily on the ICAC website ( www.icac.org.hk ) and the “A Passage A Day” website ( www.prof-ho.com ) for reading and participation in a writing competition by students from over 700 primary and secondary schools.
A collection of articles contributed by over 100 writers and celebrities on anti-corruption and integrity themes will be published in March next year.
The project is jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Commission on Youth and the Hong Kong Writers Association.
To tie-in with this reading project, the Commission will organise a series of activities including community fairs, workshops and exhibitions throughout the territory until March next year, which was kicked off with the Tsuen Wan District Project today.
Also officiating at the ceremony were Chairman of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Mr Daniel Heung Cheuk-kei; President of the Hong Kong Writers Association, Ms Chu Lien-fan; Member of the Commission on Youth, Mrs Leung Ngai Mau-yin, and other Tsuen Wan district leaders.
