About 100 delegates to the Third ICAC Symposium visited the ICAC yesterday (Thursday) to gain first-hand knowledge of the Commission's three-pronged strategy to combat corruption.

The delegates, mostly first-time visitors to the ICAC, were briefed on the Commission's investigation, corruption prevention and community education work.

The visit was an extended programme of the Third ICAC Symposium –'96 Corporate Corruption, Integrity and Governance, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre between May 9 and 11, which attracted over 400 delegates from 41 jurisdictions.

Visitors included graft-busters, law enforcers and judicial officers from the Mainland, Australia, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, the Ph ilippines, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Vietnam and Zambia.

Among them were also representatives from local and overseas private organisations.

They toured various facilities of the Operations Department, including the Exhibition Hall, Video Interview Room, Report Centre, Detention Centre, and Identification Parade Room.

Some delegates also paid a visit to the Hong Kong Ethics Development Centre in Wanchai to gain a better understanding of how the ICAC promotes business ethics through the Centre.

In recent years, the ICAC received about 300 overseas visitors a year as part of the on-going international exchange activities and the number reached over 400 from 41 countries and places last year.
