2006-5-29
The Department of Justice (DoJ), on behalf of the ICAC, has reached an out-of-court settlement with the family of Hon Sum, a former police sergeant. The family of Hon agreed to relinquish assets worth around HK$140 million.
Hon joined the then Royal Hong Kong Police in September 1940 and retired in August 1971. Hon was sought by the ICAC since 1976 for suspected possession of assets disproportionate to his total official emoluments. He had reportedly passed away in August 1999.
On March 30, 2000, the DoJ commenced civil proceedings on behalf of the ICAC against Hon and his estate over Hon's frozen assets. An out-of-court settlement was finally reached earlier this month.
