The ICAC has today (Thursday) charged the Chairman of the Tai Po District Council and his brother for their alleged roles in a $1.18 million fraud in relation to the lease of a piece of government land for operating garage business.

Cheng Chun-ping and Cheng Chun-hung are also alleged of making another false representation between January 2003 and April 2005, claiming that they had the right to lease the above piece of land to another garage operator, and with intent to defraud, indu cing the operator to pay them a total of $420,000, purportedly as rentals for the said period.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances on Monday.
