CSD officer faces bribery charges over early release of prisoner

An Officer of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) has been charged by the ICAC with allegedly soliciting and accepting advantages from a prisoner for helping the latter apply for early release pursuant to the Prisoners (Release Under Supervision) O rdinance.
Lee Yee-tak, 51, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) on two counts of public servant soliciting an advantage, and one of public servant accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 4(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance .
One of the charges alleges that on January 10, 2006, the defendant solicited $300,000 from a prisoner of the Stanley Prison as a reward for assisting the prisoner in applying for early release pursuant to the Prisoners (Release Under Supervision) Ordinanc e.
ICAC enquiries revealed that since then, the defendant had allegedly repeated his solicitation to the prisoner, and subsequently offered to reduce the reward to $200,000.
The second charge alleges the defendant of soliciting $200,000 from the prisoner for the same reason on January 30, 2006.
The remaining charge alleges the defendant of accepting $200,000 on February 11, 2006 from an ICAC undercover officer for the same reason.
CSD had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during the investigation.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
