Duo charged for alleged bribery over food supplies to restaurant and hotels

A frozen food supplier and a chef of a hotel have been charged by the ICAC for alleged bribery in relation to food supplies to a restaurant and two hotels in separate cases.

In the first case, Ip Foo-keung, 47, operator of Ching Kee, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on three counts of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

One of the charges alleges that on January 4, 2006, Ip offered $240 to the head of the barbecue section of a restaurant as a reward for recommending for placing meat orders with Ching Kee.

Ip is also alleged to have offered $4,620 and $5,120 to the head of the barbecue section of a hotel on February 1 and March 3, 2006 respectively as rewards for continuing to place meat orders with Ching Kee.

In another case, Hung Kam-lung, 48, a chef of Hong Kong Inter-Continental Hotel, faces one count of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. He will appear in Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am tom orrow (Friday).

The charge alleges Hung of accepting $6,000 on March 13, 2006 from the operator of a roasted meat company as a reward for having shown favour to the company in relation to the hotel's business.

The two defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances tomorrow.
