The overall efficiency of the ICAC would be further enhanced by upgraded operational and training facilities with the opening of its Headquarters Building expected next fall, said ICAC Commissioner, Mrs Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, today (Thursday).
Speaking at the topping-out ceremony of the ICAC Headquarters Building in North Point, Mrs Law said: "Apart from a highly professional team, the Commission needs advanced facilities and information technology support to tackle the increasingly sophisticat ed corruption crimes and challenges brought by globalisation of world economies."
The construction of the ICAC Headquarters Building is near completion and internal fitting-out work will be carried out in the coming months.
"We expect the building to be opened in September next year to house various departments under one roof, further strengthening communication within the Commission and enhancing overall efficiency," said Mrs Law.
Following the approval of funding by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council in June 2003, construction work began in September 2004.
The 25-storey building, located on Java Road in North Point, houses a full range of facilities essential to ICAC's operation, including an operations control room, video interview rooms, a detention centre, a report centre, an identification parade room, an indoor shooting range, a multi-purpose training hall and a multi-purpose theatre.
Managed by the Architectural Services Department, the design-and-build project was undertaken by a subsidiary of the Shui On Construction And Materials Limited.
Also officiating at today's topping-out ceremony were Mr Yue Chi-hang, Director of Architectural Services, and Mr Lawrence Choi, Vice-Chairman of Shui On Construction and Materials Limited.
About 60 ICAC staff including directorate officers, members of the Headquarters Building Project Steering Committee and its working groups and staff representatives attended the ceremony.
