ICAC officers honoured for exemplary anti-corruption work

Twenty-three officers of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) today (Thursday) received commendations in recognition of their outstanding performance in anti-corruption work.
Speaking at the ICAC Awards Presentation Ceremony, ICAC Commissioner Mrs Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun commended the officers for their high degree of professionalism and perseverance in carrying out their duties.
She noted that these officers should inspire other colleagues, in particular the younger officers, with their passion, knowledge and achievements.
Three Chief Investigators were awarded the Commissioner's Commendation for their outstanding leadership and remarkable professional ability in cracking some difficult corruption cases.
Miss Lau Kit-yin was commended for leading a major investigation involving a publicly listed company, resulting in the conviction of its chairman and an executive director for misappropriating over $50 million in company funds.
Also honoured was Mr Choi Shu-keung, who headed the investigations of two publicly listed companies over share manipulation, perversion and conspiracy to defraud offences involving their senior management.
Mr Raymond Yuen was commended for the successful investigation of a case of perversion, perjury and disclosure of the identity of a participant in the witness protection programme.
Fifteen other investigators were awarded the Operations Department Directorate Commendations for their professionalism and dedication in conducting corruption inquiries, involving police officers, Urban Renewal Authority staff and exploitation of labourer s' wages by cleansing companies.
Four officers of the Corruption Prevention Department (CPD) were presented with the Director of Corruption Prevention's Commendations for their outstanding performance in corruption prevention work.
Acting Group Head Mr Lee Yat-sau and former Assignment Officer Miss Kwong Kin-mui were commended for assisting government departments in guarding against exploitation of unskilled workers employed under government contracts.
Senior Assignment Officers Miss Sugahara Hiroko and Miss Lam Yuen-to were commended respectively for producing a best practice module to promote ethical practices in the travel agent operation, and an information package for effective international exchan ge of corruption prevention experience.
The Director of Community Relations' Commendation was awarded to Miss Yu Wai-fun for organising the territory-wide “Integrity Enhancement Publication and E-Reading Students Participation Programme” , reaching over 220,000 students.
Mrs Law also presented souvenirs to five senior ICAC officers who were earlier honoured by the Government.
They are Assistant Director of Operations Mr Gerald Roger Osborn, who received the Hong Kong ICAC Medal for Distinguished Service; Chief Investigators Mr Sydney Sun Hiu-ming and Mr Chan Siu-yung, who received the Hong Kong ICAC Medal for Meritorious Servi ce; and Chief Investigator Mr Wu Hoi-sang and former Senior Chinese Language Officer Mr Tsang Yan-sang, who both received the Medal of Honour.
Meanwhile, 111 ICAC officers and staff of various ranks and grades were given medals, certificates or plaques for their long services in the Commission and the Government.
