2007-1-22

The ICAC Commissioner, Mrs Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, today (Monday) started her two-day official visit in Guangzhou and Shenzhen to exchange experience in anti-corruption work with the procuratorate and supervision authorities there.

"Due to geographical proximity, Hong Kong and Guangdong have developed very close economic and social ties over the years. We hope this visit will further enhance mutual understanding and cooperation in anti-corruption work on both the operational and edu cational fronts," Mrs Law said.

Accompanied by senior ICAC officers, the Commissioner called on the Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate (GDPP) and met Mr Zhang Xuejun, Chief Procurator of GDPP.

The ICAC delegation also met with senior officials of the Guangdong Supervision Bureau and Guangdong Public Security Bureau.

Under a Mutual Case Assistance Scheme established with GDPP since 1988, the ICAC has maintained good cooperation with the Mainland procuratorate authorities in interviewing witnesses in each other's jurisdictions over corruption related cases.

On the education front, the ICAC has plans to update the corruption prevention guidebooks jointly produced with procuratorate authorities earlier for businessmen engaged in cross-boundary business.

In Shenzhen, the ICAC Commissioner will visit the Shenzhen Municipal People's Procuratorate and the Shenzhen Municipal Supervision Bureau.

The delegation will also learn about the operation of an electronic system implemented by the Shenzhen municipal government to enhance transparency of public services.
