Candidates and voters urged to keep Rural Committee polls clean
2007-1-28
The ICAC today (Sunday) reminds candidates and voters participating in the upcoming Rural Committee (RC) elections to uphold clean and fair elections.
To help candidates and voters of the RC elections better understand and avoid inadvertent infringement of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO), the ICAC has published an information booklet for their reference.
Apart from the gist of the ECICO, the booklet also contains a " Questions and Answers " section on various issues of common concern such as hosting meals and arranging trips for village representatives.
"Voters and candidates should find the ' Questions and Answers' section particularly useful as it highlights various scenarios that candidates raised in previous rural polls," said ICAC's Programme Co-ordinator (Elections), Miss Rosaline Cheung Oi-lung.
Also included in the booklet is a checklist of " Dos and Don'ts" on what should and should not be done in participating in the elections, Ms Cheung added.
"We will also, upon request, provide briefings for members of rural organisations to further explain the provisions of the ECICO," she said.
An ICAC 24-hour hotline 2920 7878 has been set up to answer public queries on the ECICO and related publicity and education activities.
Members of the public who have come across suspected corruption or illegal conduct in the RC elections could call the 24-hour ICAC Report Centre at 2526 6366
Relevant information concerning RC Elections, including the information booklet, is available for public access from the ICAC's " Elections Update" webpage at http://www.icac.org.hk .
