ICAC officers to share experience with public at Careers Expo

2007-1-31

Members of the public can meet ICAC officers face-to-face and try out the Commission’s mock interviewing facilities at the Education and Careers Expo 2007 to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from tomorrow (Thursday).

"ICAC's participation in the Education and Careers Expo aims to attract new recruits as well as further enhancing its transparency of work amongst the public," ICAC's Assistant Director of Administration, Mr Tse Man-shing said.

Adopting the theme of "Hong Kong. Our Advantage is you and the ICAC", the ICAC's exhibition booths feature a mock video interview room where visitors can have a glimpse of how ICAC investigators conduct interviews in cracking corruption cases.

During the four-day Expo, officers from the ICAC's three departments will be there to brief visitors on the career opportunities and prospects in the anti-graft body.

Also on display is a building model, which showcases a major ICAC investigation revealing short-piling works in a public housing estate.

"This was one of the classical cases which demonstrated how the issue of corruption could be effectively addressed through a three-pronged approach of investigation, corruption prevention and community relations," Mr Tse said.

"In this case, following detection of criminal offences by the Operations Department, officers from the Corruption Prevention and Community Relations Departments quickly moved in to review the operating systems of the industry and stepped up efforts to pr omote ethical management and practices.

"In the coming months, we expect there will be about 30 vacancies in the three departments. People who can meet the job requirements and have a strong sense of commitment to uphold social justice are welcome to join the Commission," Mr Tse added.

The Expo, participated by about 500 exhibitors from various government departments, public organisations, professional bodies and private companies, will be held at Hall 5 of the HKCEC.

Members of the public are welcome to visit the ICAC booths, which will be open from 10:30 am to 7 pm on February 1; 10 am to 7 pm on February 2 and 3; and from 10 am to 6 pm on February 4. Admission is free.

On the last day of the exhibition (February 4), a Chief Investigator and two other officers from the Corruption Prevention and Community Relations Departments will give a talk on their working experience at 4:40 p.m. in Rooms 402 –'96 403.
