ICAC distributes information booklets for Heung Yee Kuk Members Election
2007-3-30
The ICAC will distribute information booklets to help candidates and agents at the Heung Yee Kuk (HYK) Members Election better understand the provisions of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) as the nomination period commences to day (Friday).
With the assistance of the Home Affairs Department and HYK, the information booklets will be distributed to candidates, agents and electors of the election.
"The booklet will serve as a useful and handy reference to remind candidates and their helpers of the common corrupt and illegal pitfalls in conducting election activities," ICAC's Programme Co-ordinator (Elections) Miss Rosaline Cheung Oi-lung said.
Featuring major provisions of the ECICO, the booklet highlights the legal requirements in nomination, electioneering, voting, administration of election expenses and donations.
It also contains a " Questions and Answers " section on common concerns in rural polls such as issues related to attending village dining parties, sponsoring trips for electors and publication of election advertisements.
"Also included in the booklet is a checklist of ' Dos and Don'ts' on what should and should not be done in the process of running an election," Miss Cheung added.
The Commission can arrange briefings to explain the provisions of the ECICO to candidates and election agents.
Meanwhile, the ICAC also runs a 24-hour election hotline 2920 7878 for public enquiries concerning the ECICO and ICAC's education and publicity activities for this election.
