Law student charged for allegedly forging examination results

A law student of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) was today (Friday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly forging his examination result slips to deceive the university.
Cheng Sing-ho, 23, will appear at Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am on Tuesday (June 12) on two counts of forgery and two of using a false instrument.
The ICAC investigation arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent inquiries revealed an alleged fraudulent scam contrived by the defendant to deceive the university.
The two forgery charges allege Cheng of making three false examination result slips, respectively dated June 23, 2004, June 17, 2005 and January 20, 2006, and purportedly issued by HKU, with the intention of inducing an officer of the Faculty of Law of HK U to accept them as genuine.
Of the remaining two charges, one of them alleges Cheng of using two false examination result slips respectively dated June 23, 2004 and June 17, 2005, and both purportedly issued by HKU, with the intention of inducing a professor of the Faculty of Law of HKU to accept them as genuine.
The fourth charge alleges Cheng of using a false letter purportedly issued by a property management company, with the intention of inducing an officer of the Faculty of Law of HKU to accept it as genuine.
ICAC investigation revealed that Cheng had allegedly used the above letter to falsely claim that he was unable to attend an examination of the Faculty of Law due to a technical problem of a lift at the building at which he was residing. Cheng had alleged ly claimed that he was trapped in the lift when the problem occurred.
The alleged offences took place between June 2004 and July 2006.
Cheng has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance on June 12, 2007.
