2007-7-16
A man was charged by the ICAC and brought to Fanling Magistracy this (Monday) morning for allegedly perverting the course of public justice by making a false corruption report against two police officers.
Lam Man-kwong, 29, unemployed, who was arrested by ICAC officers yesterday, faced one count of doing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice, contrary to Common Law.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Mr Josiah Lam Wai-kuen adjourned the case until September 27 for trial, and remanded the defendant in the custody of the Correctional Services Department.
The charge alleged that on June 24, 2006, the defendant did an act which had a tendency to pervert the course of public justice.
The defendant was said to have made a false statement to the ICAC, alleging that a police inspector and a police station sergeant had solicited a $50,000 bribe from him for not charging him in connection with the criminal investigation of an assault case.
The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Paul Lau.
