Response statement

2007-8-3

In response to press enquiries, an ICAC spokesman today (Friday) confirmed that nine persons were arrested yesterday for alleged bribery in relation to poultry supplies to restaurants.

The arrestees were two directors and three employees of a chilled meat and poultry company; three chefs of three restaurants; and an associate of a chef.

The investigation arose from a corruption complaint.

ICAC enquiries revealed that the arrested directors and employees of the poultry company had allegedly conspired to offer regular bribe payments to the arrested three chefs.

In return, the chefs were alleged to have placed orders with the company concerned, and connived at the supplies of substandard poultry.

Enquiries are continuing.
