RTHK disc jockey charged for alleged fraud over script-writing fees
2007-8-24
The ICAC has charged a disc jockey of the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) for alleged fraud in relation to script-writing and research services payments.
Leung Ka-fai, 34, will appear in Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am on Monday (August 27) on one count of conspiracy to defraud.
Also charged in the case was Leung's elder sister Josephine Leung Wai-ka, 40, who faces the same charge.
The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the alleged offence of conspiracy to defraud.
The charge alleges that between September and November 2001, Leung Ka-fai and Leung Wai-ka had conspired together to defraud RTHK.
They are alleged to have falsely represented that Leung Wai-ka had provided script-writing and research services for RTHK and was thus entitled to service payments.
As a result, RTHK was caused to make payments totalling $10,600 to Leung Wai-ka when in fact no such services had been provided by her.
RTHK provided full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances on Monday.
