A teacher of a secondary school has been charged today (Wednesday) by the ICAC for allegedly pocketing discounts totalling over $13,400 offered by a textbook distributor for the purchase of textbooks for students.
Tse Wing-cheung, 34, a teacher of Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School, will appear in Tuen Mun Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (August 31) on 10 counts of theft.
The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the alleged theft offences.
The charges allege that the defendant had stolen a total of ten cheques, totaling over $91,800, which other teachers of the school had collected from students and deposited into the defendant's bank account for the purchase of textbooks.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the stolen amount represented the total payment received for the purchase of textbooks, including over $13,400 being 20 per cent discounts offered by the textbook distributor.
It is alleged that the defendant, after settling the payment with the textbook distributor, had pocketed the discounts of $13,469.80.
The alleged offences took place between September 6 and 16, 2005.
The school had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance on Friday.
