Trio charged for alleged HK$10m illegal commission scam over supplies of semi-conductors

The ICAC has charged three persons for their alleged roles in a scam to receive illegal commissions totalling over HK$10 million in relation to supplies of semi-conductors.

The defendants are Ngai Chiu-fan, 43, former sales director of Atmel Asia Limited (Atmel Asia); Edward Lee Kah-wai, 43, former chief executive officer of Nucleus Electronics Limited; and Looi Kim-wah, 41, sales director of Nucleus Electronics (Hong Kong) Limited.

They will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on a total of five counts of conspiracy to offer advantages to an agent, contrary to Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance and Section 9(2)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The senior management of Atmel Corporation, of which Atmel Asia is a subsidiary, has rendered full cooperation and assistance to the ICAC in this investigation.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances tomorrow.
